This is an image based on a picture I found of a goat; again taken by my brother. This is built up of a few shapes made on illustrator and some scanned in scribbles and paint marks. This is made on a background of a blank scan. I wanted to think of a poignant pun and the best i could come up with is 'nanny state'.

In my family we often use the term mañana. We like to think this is because we are all very relaxed people. I think this term is quite fitting to designers as well because as we all know, the best designers leave everything till the last minute. So the next time your eyes can't focus on anything because you're too hyped up on Red Bull or coffee and all you want to do is sleep but you're trying to complete a deadline, remember 'mañana'.

Mark Linkous was a songwriter/producer and was known for his band Sparklehorse. I was a massive fan of his music. On March 6th 2010, he took his own life. I was sitting, listening to the album 'It's a Wonderful Life' and thought I would do an illustration as a sign of respect for his music, and his genius. The song below is a song he did with PJ Harvey (another one of my favourite artists).
So finally we have a designy illustration on here! This is a little taster of the sort of work that will be thrown up here for your enjoyment, or not. This piece is based on a picture i have found on my computer which was quite simply an image of a monkey looking rather serious. I then thought, what do I know about serious monkeys? I wanted to include a suitable sentence to incorporate typography. This triggered the evolution process that might, or might not be true (but probably is). I decided to use the words "I Evolved" because I probably did. I used the serif typeface for the 'I' and a serif typeface for 'evolved'. This was purely to mix old and new. Finally I made the type increase in size to interpret the evolution diagrams.

I would like to welcome you to the Free Hugs Blog. This is pretty much just a collection of illustrations, typography and design all meant in the name of fun. I like to think that this is a place of creative freedom where nothing is serious. I love drawing and I love graphic design. I don't categorise myself under illustration or graphic design. This is a place where the lines of division are blurred. So, to conclude this mess of an introduction; basically it's a Graphiccy design type illustrationish blog. Hope you enjoy and here, have a Free Hug.
